Aged Care: A Safe Physical Environment

At Hellenic Aged Care we prioritize creating a safe and comfortable physical environment for our residents. Here’s what you need to know about the physical aspects of our facility:

Electrical Equipment – Safety and Convenience

To ensure the safety of our residents, all electrical items brought into Hellenic Aged Care must be tested for safety and have a current safety tag attached.

Televisions, computers, radios, compact disc players, and cassette players are permitted. For the convenience of other residents, we recommend using headphones where appropriate. Internet access can be arranged through our reception.

Residents are encouraged to have small bar refrigerators in their rooms, preferably frost-free. It is the family’s responsibility to clean the residents’ fridge.

However, microwaves, kettles, portable heaters, toasters, irons, and electric blankets are not permitted in resident’s rooms. Kitchen facilities are accessible to all residents for tea and coffee. Please consult the management before connecting any other electrical equipment.

Fire Drill and Evacuation Procedures - Ensuring Safety

Periodically, we conduct fire system tests and training to ensure the safety of our residents. While residents are not generally required to participate in this training, they are informed in advance of the scheduled sessions. Emergency exit plans, including floor plans, fire extinguisher locations, and fire assembly areas, are displayed throughout the facility.

Safety - Promoting Independence with Consideration

We strive to maintain a safe environment that balances residents’ independence with the overall management and safety of Hellenic Aged Care. We respect residents’ right to make informed choices and take calculated risks that align with their preferences, while ensuring the safety of themselves and other residents.

Security, Valuables, and Money - Peace of Mind

Each resident is provided with a separately keyed lockable room to ensure their security and privacy. However, residents are responsible for determining whether the level of security provided is sufficient for protecting their valuables. We recommend that residents do not retain valuable items or jewelry at Hellenic Aged Care, and we do not accept responsibility for any loss incurred by a resident.

Smoking - Creating a Healthy Environment

Hellenic Aged Care is a smoke-free area within any enclosed space under the main roof. Designated smoking areas are available outside B Wing within the courtyard. To maintain the comfort of all residents, we kindly request that smoking be avoided near windows or doors to prevent the spread of smoke and minimize the risk of activating the fire alarm.

Telephone - Staying Connected

Residents have the option to have a private telephone installed in their room through the appropriate service provider. All costs associated with installation, rental, and maintenance are the resident’s responsibility. We understand the importance of staying connected with loved ones and offer telephone services to support communication.

Television - Entertainment in Your Room

All resident rooms are equipped with an aerial point for free-to-air channels. While we do not provide pay TV services, we offer free cultural TV channels in Greek, Italian, and Dutch languages, subject to availability. Please contact our reception if you are interested in accessing these channels.

Transport Services - Exploring the Community

Hellenic Aged Care provides transport services for ambulant and independent residents to facilitate local shopping trips and outings. Additionally, Transperth services are available to several nearby shopping centers, including Mirrabooka, Noranda, Galleria, and Malaga markets. Taxi calls can also be made on behalf of residents at our administration reception.

Food regulations

To ensure the safety of all residents, we have implemented strict food preparation guidelines, public health and safety requirements, and medical and nutritional standards in our main kitchen. We kindly request that relatives, visitors, and friends refrain from bringing in outside food without informing the management. This allows us to monitor residents’ diets and ensure that foods are prepared in accordance with their specific care needs.

Smoking facilities

At Hellenic Aged Care, we prioritise the well-being of our residents. Therefore, we have designated smoking areas outside B Wing within the courtyard. Smoking near windows or doors is discouraged to prevent fumes from affecting other residents and to maintain a healthy living environment.
